The Colby College Libraries are hiring a library assistant to work during the summer. We are seeking a student
worker who has excellent customer service skills to provide welcoming, courteous and knowledgeable service to library
users.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Desk
• Provide welcoming, courteous and knowledgeable service to library users at Miller and Bixler libraries, including check-out/check-in library materials such as books, journals, reserve items, and equipment; answering basic informational, directional, and library policy questions; helping patrons locate materials in the stacks; shelving library materials, and assisting with basic stacks maintenance; and assisting the department in opening and
closing the library
• Adhere to library policy and procedure
• Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Stacks Maintenance

• Assist with shelving items, pulling requested items, daily maintenance of stacks in Miller and Bixler libraries

• Adhere to library policy and procedure

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

• Excellent customer service skills

• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Self-motivated, dependable, and punctual
• Willingness to learn and work collaboratively
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and during finals

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
This position has significant interaction with staff, faculty, and others in the Colby community.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
