JOB SUMMARY
The Substitute Library Assistant provides patron service on an as-needed basis across library branches, working a variable schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and short-notice shifts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide courteous, efficient customer service to patrons at public service desks and by phone.
2. Support daily library operations by providing desk coverage, performing opening and closing duties, and assisting colleagues as needed.
3. Apply library policies, procedures, and service standards consistently while maintaining patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
4. Monitor patron behavior and respond appropriately in accordance with the Library Rules.
5. Complete other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· High School diploma or equivalent.
· Six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Working knowledge of standard computer software and library systems.
· Strong customer service and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently with attention to detail and good task prioritization.
· Accurate data entry and filing skills.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Bilingual English/Spanish language skills.
· Experience working with people from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
· Cash handling experience.

WORK SCHEDULE
Work schedule will vary and include weekend and evening hours. Anyone who works for the library must be willing to work anytime the library is open. Laramie County Library (Cheyenne) open hours are Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The essential duties and responsibilities of this job require the employee to move or manipulate moderately heavy equipment, boxes, carts, files, and stacks of material from one location to another.
