In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in β€œvalid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Under the direct supervision of the Access Services & Circulation Manager and the User Support Assistant at the Stan Getz Library, the Student Library Assistant attends to area users including students, faculty, and staff members wishing to make use of the Library resources. Main responsibilities include helping patrons locating library items, placing item holds, and requesting new items. They check materials in and out, monitor Library usage, and organize materials. The Student Library Assistant performs many support activities involved in operating the Berklee library by assisting students, faculty and staff following established rules and procedures and policies. Student Library Assistants may work on special projects.

This position is for Summer 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting students, staff, and faculty in locating materials, and requesting ILL and Annex items.

  • Understanding and learning cataloging procedures

  • Checking in and out items using the library software

  • Updating the catalog by changing the item status (lost, missing, damaged, etc.)

  • Preserving security of the collection

  • Assisting in keeping the shelved materials in order

  • Processing library holds

  • Helping patrons using the scanner

  • Collecting statistics data

  • Assisting patrons via the library live-chat online service

Experience and Qualifications:

  • The Student Library Assistant must have strong communication and good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work either independently or in group.

  • Must be able to provide professional customer service to students, staff, and faculty.

  • SLA must have the ability to use both Macintosh and PC computers.

  • Punctuality, attention to detail, and organizational ability are absolute must.

  • Strong knowledge in the Learning Resources services

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
