The Fresno County Public Library invites applications for the position of Senior Library Assistant. Incumbents provide assistance in the use of library materials and programs to the public and provide directed support work to professional librarians; may be responsible for a community library; may act in a lead capacity; and perform related work as required

Please NoteThe current vacancies exist in the Fresno County Public Library, Bookmobile services. The immediate vacancies will require incumbents to obtain a valid Class “B” driver's license, or equivalent, within the probationary periodThe Bookmobile operates as a mobile library branch that offers library services, and a browsable collection of library materials to remote locations where a physical library branch is not close by or easily accessible by public transportation or where a need for library services has been recognizedThe Bookmobile services visit locations in rural, suburban, and urban communities. The ideal candidate will be customer service orientated.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, paid public contact work experience involving some clerical work, one (1) year of which must be equivalent to that gained as a Library Assistant with Fresno County.

Substitution: Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable with the United States' accredited college or university system may substitute for two (2) years of the required paid, public contact involving clerical work experience.

Licenses: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required. Possession of a valid Class "B" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

The immediate vacancies will require incumbents to obtain a valid Class “B” driver's license, or equivalent, within the probationary period

SELECTION PROCESS:

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur. Should a recruitment be open on a continuous basis, eligibles shall be certified in the order they are received not to exceed the maximum certification the department is entitled to. 

  • Tentative Interview Dates: June 15-17, 2026

  • The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. 
  • Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.


REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:


Positions in this classification are in Medical Group II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
