The City of Monterey Park is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Librarian. The current vacancy is in Operational Support Services; however, the list established may be used to fill vacancies in Children's division or Adult/Teen Services division. A Senior Librarian works a rotating schedule of Tuesday through Saturday or Monday through Friday, with an evening shift required each week. Rotations are done based on needs of the department.

THE POSITION
The Senior Librarian is a mid-management position that reports directly to the City Librarian and is responsible for managing the staff and services of the assigned Library division.
Ideal candidates will have excellent managerial and customer service skills; the ability to set clear expectations and manage staff performance; the ability to meet deadlines, set priorities, and work independently; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, peers, subordinates, and the public; and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
THE LIBRARY
The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is a single branch municipal library that serves a diverse community of 61,000 residents in the San Gabriel Valley. The library serves the entire community by maintaining a diversified collection of print and electronic books, magazines, periodicals, and audio-visual materials in community languages; providing public computer access and training; teaching English and helping residents become citizens; supporting children and families with collections, services, and partnerships; providing opportunities for personal development through Career Center services; and preserving Monterey Park's heritage by collecting local information and materials of historical significance. The library's collection includes over 100,000 volumes, many of which are in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish, to reflect the demographics of our residents.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university is required.
Three (3) years of experience as a Librarian.
Supervisory or lead experience is highly desirable.
Candidates whose qualifications and experience best meet the needs of the City will be invited to an oral appraisal interview. The oral appraisal interview will evaluate the background and personal qualifications of each candidate. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to future testing.
Successful completion of a pre-employment background and physical examination including a drug/alcohol screen will be required prior to appointment.
New hire candidates must show proof of full Covid vaccinations prior to being hired. Limited exemptions may apply.
