EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full time, 12-Month Position

PRIMARY DUTY: The Research Librarian / Instruction and Reference is a highly collaborative, service-oriented position. The librarian in this position will assume a full schedule of information literacy teaching sessions for both common core courses and disciplines specific courses, serve as a liaison to academic departments, and provide one-on-one research service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Partner with co-workers and academic faculty to deliver general education and subject-specific academic research instruction in-person and online.

2. Utilize course management software, responsive web development tools, and library course guides to create research content for the curriculum and online instructional materials that support departmental mission and vision for academic achievement.

3. Collaborate with colleagues in the creation, implementation, and assessment of learning objectives for information literacy and student learning across campus.

4. Assist patrons with their information needs through personalized face-to-face and virtual research services.

5. Serve as liaison to a number of disciplines, collaborate with library and university colleagues on procurement of appropriate materials to support the curriculum and research.

6. Collaborate with colleagues to promote excellence in face-to-face and virtual reference interactions.

7. Interpret copyright and fair use guidelines as they relate to academics.

8. Serve on library, institutional, and consortia working groups as necessary.

9. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree

Experience: 2 years of relevant experience

Skills: Strong customer service, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong analytical abilities; ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with diverse populations; ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work within a library setting. Requires availability to work 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and the possibility of additional hours as needed. Must be able to move throughout the library to provide research assistance. Must be able to move around the campus to deliver instruction to academic department courses in buildings across campus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise student employees.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Primary sedentary work, but also requires standing, walking, stooping or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping and lifting. Requires the ability to exert up to approximately 35 pounds of force to occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move carts/boxes of books/materials. Ability to concentrate on detailed information over an extended period of time.
