Position Summary:      

The Research Instruction Librarian participates in all law library research instruction programs including the Basic Legal Research program for first-year law students offered in collaboration with the writing program, required Advanced Legal Research for upper-level students, and ad hoc instruction including work with clinics, journals, and seminars. In addition, this position also provides reference services to the Cardozo community.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Teaches two sections of the required one-credit Advanced Legal Research course per academic year.
  • Creates instructional materials in collaboration with other research instructors including videos, syllabi, exercises, and assignments.
  • Provides ad hoc research sessions and workshops tailored to the specific needs of the law school community.
  • Performs administrative tasks in support of library instructional programs including coordinating ad hoc instruction, tracking student progress, and creating marketing materials for optional instructional programs.
  • Provides in-person and virtual reference services and participates in faculty research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience & Educational Background:

Required qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent.
  • Masters in Library Science (MLS), Masters in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or foreign equivalent.
    • In lieu of an MLS/MLIS/foreign equivalent requirement, 1 year of reference and research experience in a library setting and 1 year of legal research instruction or training experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in an academic library.

This position interacts closely other library staff, faculty, students, and other law school staff. After training, this position will be expected to demonstrate executive function in carrying out legal research instruction responsibilities.
