Position Information

This position oversees operations at four libraries in the northwest region of Cobb County. The successful candidate will bring inspired leadership to staff in order to cultivate talent, promote individual and team growth, encourage collaboration and teamwork, and provide excellent service to Cobb residents. 

The regional manager serves as a key liaison to library administration, providing feedback to assist in decision-making, ensuring staff are aware of and adhere to policies and procedures, and engaging with a team of peer regional managers to effect change under the supervision of the Division Director of Branch Services.

This position is based in the West Cobb Regional Library in Kennesaw, but the successful candidate is expected to frequent other branches in the region in order to accomplish system and regional goals. The regional manager supervises four full-time branch managers and five part-time staff who can be assigned to work any location to fill staffing needs. 

Essential Functions

Manages, directs and evaluates assigned employees, volunteers, or community service workers, processing concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.

Manages the operations of multiple branch locations as assigned: oversees daily work activities in assigned branches; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments; provides training as needed; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; and troubleshoots problem situations.

Develops goals and objectives for areas of specialty: manages the development and implementation of library programs and activities in assigned areas: oversees programming to targeted readership; receives and submits records of program participation; recommends allocation of financial, staffing, equipment, space, and bibliographic resources necessary to meet goals and objectives; interprets goals, objectives, and policies to the public and staff; and coordinates and oversees arrangement of physical facilities in assigned area.

Manages the provision of and provides customer service to library patrons and the public: provides assistance and information related to library programs, services, materials, facilities, equipment, fees, procedures, or other issues; responds to questions and complaints related to library operations; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; greets visitors and directs to areas of library; assists patrons in requesting, selecting, and locating library materials; and researches book titles, book availability, patron records, or related information.

Manages the selection, retention, and general development of a library collection: oversees the selection of books, periodicals, and other materials for purchase; and prepares and oversees the preparation of order lists for purchase of library materials.

Manages the provision of and provides outreach for the branch or library system: visits nonprofit organizations to promote library services and programs; provides information and education about library services and materials; attends meetings of civic organizations; gives speeches and presentations; promotes literacy programs; and assists in establishing partnerships with other agencies.

Performs related administrative duties: monitors budget for assigned area to ensure compliance with approved budgets; makes recommendations regarding budget; makes hiring determinations; leads departmental and branch management meetings; monitors patron activities to ensure safety; monitors branches for needed maintenance or repairs; reviews meeting space applications; compile statistics; and prepares and submits a variety of reports.

Performs all duties of subordinate library personnel as needed: provides circulation services to patrons; repairs or mends damaged books and materials; re-shelves and locates books and materials; restocks supplies; and performs general tasks related to operation and upkeep of the library.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Library Science & Information Science from an ALA Accrediated University; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively professional experience in library operations and administration and three (3) years lead or supervisory experience in the field.

Licenses and Certifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Librarian certification.

Physical Abilities

Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
