The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University invites applicants for the position of Reference Librarian. This position is responsible for providing reference assistance to law school faculty and students. This librarian is also responsible for developing and implementing skills-based library programs. This position reports to the Law Librarian. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The exact start date for the position is flexible, but ideally the selected candidate will begin by October 1, 2024.

Qualifications: 

Education Required: 

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school 

  • Master of Library Science (or its equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program 

Experience and Training: 

  • Prior experience providing reference services in a law library is preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: 

  • Willingness to contribute actively to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the School of Law and University 

  • Outstanding interpersonal and listening skills sufficient to work effectively with School of Law faculty, staff, students, and prospective students 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that enable candidates to communicate with friendliness, enthusiasm, patience, and respect 

  • Ability to conduct research using materials in all formats  

  • Ability to deliver exceptional patron service independently and collaboratively 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Under the supervision of the Law Librarian, provide reference assistance to law school faculty, students, the High Point University community, and the public as necessary.  
  • Co-teach legal research classes as part of the first-year Legal Research & Writing curriculum 

  • Participate in the assessment of student satisfaction with library services and resources. 

  • Provide library tours for visitors and for prospective and admitted students.    

  • Participate in library orientations for new students and professors. 

  • Participate in routine meetings as necessary. 

  • Participate actively in professional associations relating to law libraries.   

  • Engage in other administrative duties essential to the mission of the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law and the law library. 

 

Accountability: 

  • Reports to the Law Librarian.
