The Reference & Instruction Librarian provides reference services and teaches bibliographic instruction for both online and seated classes.

Duties include:

  • Conducts reference interviews and assists patrons
  • Provides research assistance in person, via email, phone, and chat
  • Helps patrons evaluate information sources
  • Provides technical/computer assistance to library patrons
  • Coordinates, designs, teaches, and assesses bibliographic instruction for both seated and online classes.
  • Promotes information literacy
  • Serves as a liaison with faculty to promote library instruction and resources
  • Creates and maintains library research guides, instructional aids/handouts, and tutorials.
  • Participates in collection development and library planning.
  • Manages the college archives.
  • Serves on College committees and task forces as assigned
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, and employee meetings 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
Knowledge and Skills:  Two years of experience as a professional librarian at the higher education level, with experience in providing reference services and in teaching bibliographic instruction. Knowledge of library networks and information technologies, current trends in library instruction and information literacy, and online database and Internet searching proficiencies sufficient to teach others. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office. Preferred: Knowledge of course management software, library automation systems, library research guides and desktop publishing software.
