Job Description Summary
This vacancy is open ONLY to current regular and hourly employees who are members of SEIU Local 1021. Per new Article 8.7 of the Local 1021 hourly contract, this job is being posted for ten (10) working days. Under general direction, the Principal Library Technician performs a variety of paraprofessional and administrative library work.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of: o Library technical processes relating to the acquisition and classification of library materials o Library terminology and standard practices o Library of Congress cataloging and filing systems. o Methods and practices of financial record keeping related to libraries o Operations, procedures, specific rules, and precedents of the library o Office equipment, procedures and practices including filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques, and letter and report writing Ability to: o Perform sub professional library duties relating to technical processing and public services. o Perform library clerical duties with speed and accuracy. o Maintain financial and statistical records. o Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. o Train and supervise assigned personnel. o Type accurately from clear copy. o Analyze situations and make decisions in procedural matters without immediate supervision. o Think and act quickly under pressure. o Learn rapidly a variety of rules and procedures relating to library routines. o Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports. o Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Four (4) years of library technical experience or an A.A. Degree in Library Science and/or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. 2. Demonstrated proficiency in the operation and use of office productivity software for word processing, spreadsheet and database management and presentation software programs (e.g. MS Office Suite, MS Word and Excel, Access and PowerPoint utilizing personal computers, internet browsers, websites and e-mail. 3. Applicant must have demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students
