Position Details

The Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa is hiring a part-time reference librarian. The part-time reference librarian provides reference services to members of the University community, teaches bibliographic instruction classes during the academic year, and assists with maintaining online resources. This position reports to the Information Literacy Librarian and works approximately 20 hours a week (evenings and weekends).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist library patrons with research and reference questions at the reference desk and by email, phone, and chat.

2. Teach library instruction sessions, primarily for sophomore introduction to research classes.

3. Create research guides and maintain online information literacy resources.

4. Assume circulation responsibilities when needed.

5. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Schedule library presentations.

2. Develop and maintain tutorials and guides for students, faculty, and staff about information sources, library resources, and research skills.

3. Assist with the evaluation and acquisition of library resources (including books and databases).

4. Contribute to the library's social media.

5. Work with professional staff on short-term projects as they arise.

6. Keep the reference desk organized and supplied.

Qualifications

1. Master's Degree in Library Science (or evidence of nearing completion).

2. Prior reference experience or appropriate course work.

3. Ability to teach a class of students about library resources and information literacy.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

5. The ability to work effectively with a wide range of people on a variety of research problems.

6. Must be able to keep current with new technologies, and effectively use new software and software platforms as necessary.

7. Ability to manage time effectively.

8. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule

Sunday 11am-7pm, Monday-Wednesday 2:30-7pm, 21.5 hours per week - not to exceed 29 hours per week/1000 hours per year.

The ideal candidate will have some flexibility to occasionally cover a Saturday shift or an early evening shift in Circulation.
