Examples of Duties
Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Sorts books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas;
Performs routine circulation tasks required to serve the public including checking the status of patron accounts, checking in and out library materials;
Assists patrons with material searches and the use of library equipment;
Performs clerical activities such as filing, typing, and data entry;
Assists in setting up rooms for programs, meetings, and special events; and
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Basic library operating principles, including confidentiality of customer information;
Basic record keeping principles and procedures;
Principles and practices of customer services;
Modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; and
English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Ability to:
Learn to perform a variety of library clerical duties;
Learn, interpret, and apply library rules and regulations;
Ability to become familiar with technical library services and learn online bibliographic systems;
Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized library services software applications programs;
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
Interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Experience: No required experience.
Special Requirements: Essential functions require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to work in a standard library environment;
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, carry items up and down staircases, push and lift up to 40 pounds; and
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
