About the Role
The Part-Time Library Associate performs varied paraprofessional and clerical work in support of daily library operations. This position provides customer service within Adult Services, Youth Services, Technical Services, or Circulation divisions and plays an important role in assisting patrons with library resources, services, and technology.

The Library Associate exercises judgment in interpreting and applying library practices, policies, and procedures while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor. This role requires frequent interaction with the public and the ability to provide helpful, accurate information to patrons. Work is performed under the supervision of a Librarian and may include serving as a lead worker in assigned areas during evening or weekend shifts.

Please Note: This position requires availability to work evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist library patrons by providing information about library services, materials, and resources.
  • Implement established policies and procedures and communicate them clearly to patrons.
  • Shelve, straighten, and maintain library materials in proper order using the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Assist patrons in using library technology, including public access computers, the online catalog, self-checkout stations, copiers, fax machines, and microfilm/microfiche readers as applicable.
  • Provide reference and informational services to library patrons as required by assigned division.
  • Deliver customer service and respond to patron inquiries over the telephone.
  • Assist patrons in selecting and locating library materials.
  • Perform clerical support duties such as typing documents, processing mail, filing, preparing reports, cataloging materials, and maintaining patron records.
  • Support daily library operations and maintain an organized, welcoming environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of clerical experience, including experience working with the public and preferably in a library setting; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
