Required:


At least 1-year proficiency with searching Medline, and other healthcare-related bibliographic databases (such as Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, etc).


 Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution.


Strong interpersonal and customer


Intermediate to advanced proficiency on personal computers, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other web based resources and tools.


Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.


Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals.


Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize workload.


Exceptional organization skills.


Ability to exercise independent judgment.


Ability to understand and accurately carry out written and verbal instructions.


Ability to bend, lift, and push moderately heavy objects.


Intermediate to advanced proficiency on personal computers, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other web-based resources and tools.


 


Preferred:


Certified by the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and/or Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS).


Experience with HTML and CSS, and using library-related tools, including Springshare LibGuides, Ebsco Full-Text Finder, SFX, DOCLINE, OCLC, EZproxy, etc. 


This is part time with benefits 8-hour shift (working 40 hrs/pay period) Mon-Fri days position located in La Jolla, CA.

What will you do?


The ideal candidate will be service-focused and committed to advancing their skills through formal training. Responsibilities include delivering timely, comprehensive literature searches, including systematic reviews, and providing other library services. The Medical Librarian will offer core reference assistance, develop expert search strategies, and proactively build relationships with clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers, residents, and fellows. This position contributes to the effective use of library resources to support clinical and research excellence.


Key responsibilities include:



  1. Literature Searches and Systematic Reviews\: Conduct comprehensive literature searches and work with systematic reviews to support clinical and research needs.

  2. Reference Assistance\: Provide expert reference assistance and develop advanced search strategies.

  3. Relationship Building\: Foster and sustain relationships with clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers, and learners. May require participation on committees.

  4. Orientations and Consultations\: Provide both in-person and virtual orientations and consultations, educating patrons on effectively using library tools.

  5. Educational Outreach\: Prepare and present in-services and outreach programs on various resources, including internet searching and evidence-based practice.

  6. Marketing and Promotion\: Proactively market and promote library services through presentations, and email communication.

  7. Training and Instruction\: Design and teach evidence-based practice for library customers and provide training to residents, fellows, and other learners.

  8. Collection Development and Special Projects\: Participate in collection development, copy cataloging, and special projects as needed.

  9. Technical Troubleshooting and Operations\: Assist with technical troubleshooting and day-to-day library operations.

  10. Innovation and Professional Development\: Engage in innovative activities within the Scripps Health library system and stay current with new developments in the medical library profession by participating on local, regional, and/or national library associations.
