JOB SUMMARY
The Library Associate is responsible for resource sharing management in Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery. This position serves as a resource sharing contact and collaborates with other library departments, students, faculty, and staff in the lending and borrowing of materials. This position is responsible for training and guiding others in interlibrary loan operations.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Processes incoming interlibrary loan requests and determines workflow assignment; assists in all aspects of Interlibrary Loan (borrowing and lending) and Document Delivery; sends and receives requests; processes book requests; converts journal articles in print collections to an electronic format for lending; and contacts patrons
Coordinates, schedules, and prioritizes daily workflow of other library staff and student assistants involved in resource sharing work; directs their activities and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the work being produced; provides excellent customer service support for library’s patrons
Prepares monthly/annual statistical reports, special studies, reports, and correspondence as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computer use skills, including ILLiad, Docline, OCLC Rapid, and other information databases
Organizational and time management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to train, plan, schedule, and supervise work of others
Ability to analyze problems to devise appropriate solutions
Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of practices, policies, and procedures
Ability to interact positively with staff and the public to enhance effectiveness and to promote quality service
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
Ability to exercise discretion and judgment, including maintenance of confidentiality of patron privacy
Ability to move full book carts and to lift materials up to 30 pounds
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
Two or more years of previous library experience or equivalent professional experience
Work Hours: 1-9pm
