GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

To assist library patrons concerning the use of library computer hardware, software, and peripherals (printers, scanners, monitors, etc.). To ensure hardware and software are in good operating condition in cooperation with ISS. Additionally, Library Technicians are responsible for all duties of the Library Information (Circulation) Desk. Receives general supervision from the Information Desk Supervisor and exercises no direct supervision.   

Note: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position. 


REGULAR WORK HOURS (Employee may not exceed 19.5 hours per week):

Spring/Fall Semester: Saturday 9am – 3pm, remaining hours to be agreed upon with supervisor

Summer Work Hours: Sunday 3pm – 9pm, remaining hours to be agreed upon with supervisor


SELECTION CRITERIA:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge of:  1. Operational characteristics of computer hardware, software, and operating systems, printers, and other common office machines; 2. English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; 3. Integrated library systems and databases; Skills in: 4. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.); 5. Adaptability and versatility in working with a wide-range of situations; 6. Presenting a professional presence within the workplace; 7. Providing excellent customer service; Ability to: 8. Effectively train others in the use of technology; 9. Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; 10. Perform a variety of tasks with appropriate speed and accuracy and accomplish tasks assigned; 11. Learn new operating systems and stay current in technology; 12. Assist patrons in the use of library equipment and location of library materials; 13. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; 14. Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions; 15. Interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures; 16. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting.  At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.


BENEFITS:

Part-Time Retirement. Participation in Medicare Part A, but not Social Security (FICA).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Associate Degree from an accredited college or university. (a minimum of 12 college credits plus relevant work experience may be substituted for required degree)

Experience: More than one year of work experience in an office and/or customer service environment, including graduate work and internships. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Work experience in a library setting
