GENERAL SUMMARY

Salary: $16.39/hr.

To assist patrons at service desks in a Library location or at community events and other service points; to answer, resolve or questions from library patrons: to assist with library collection maintenance; and to provide a wide variety of general clerical work.

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by the Technical Services Supervisor, Office Coordinator, or a Library Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
  2. Work as a cooperative and supportive member of the library team.
  3. Provide the best possible customer service to the public at physical service point or by telephone responding to their questions or directing them to an appropriate team member. 
  4. Assist patrons using various library provided technology-based resources.  
  5. Provide data entry for various in-house records, databases, and statistical reports.
  6. Assist with library collection material processing and maintenance, including handling overdue, lost, damaged, or problems items. When needed, routing items to appropriate team members. 
  7. Help with library programs, including but not limited to Summer Reading Club, Friends of the Library book sale, volunteer and other on-going activities as assigned by a supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in collection management and promotion, including but not limited to, ordering or researching new library materials, processing library materials for use, importing MARC or creating/adapting other material records, supporting inventory functions, shelving materials, cleaning/repairing damaged items, and any other duties as needed. 
  2. Assist in general library marketing and promotion, including but not limited to, posting signs, restocking promotional materials, participating in community events, and other tasks supporting the library and fellow team members.
  3. Coordinate and assist with long-term projects as needed.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

When working in Technical Services:

  • Maintain a variety of files and filing systems; prepare, maintain and update various records.
  • May post information about Library online.

When working in Circulation:

  • Assist library patrons at a service point or by telephone with various library account functions, including all activities related to borrowing and returning materials. 
  • Assist in maintaining the photocopier, including adding paper and reporting maintenance problems to supervisor.
  • Assist in the closing procedures of the library.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
 
High School Diploma or GED.
 
EXPERIENCE
 
Some library experience is preferred.

Type 30 wpm.
 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
 
Possession of a valid driver's license.

WORK SCHEDULE

Must be able to work 40 hours a week:

Mondays and Tuesdays 9AM-6PM
Wednesdays (mandatory) 11AM-8PM
Thursdays and Fridays 9AM-6PM

[Mandatory two days a month] Saturdays - 9AM-6PM
*Will have one scheduled weekday off if working on Saturdays

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
