The City of Folsom is currently recruiting for multiple Library Pages (Temporary, Part-Time) to join the Folsom Public Library

The Library Page is a temporary, part-time position which performs a variety of routine manual and clerical tasks in support of library operations and activities, primarily checking in, sorting, and shelving material to maintain the work flow and order of the library.
 
Schedule
  • This is an on-call, temporary position. The specific work schedule(s) are typically flexibly scheduled as needed, generally less than 20 hours per week.
  • Candidates must be able to work weekends and evenings.
  • Schedule will fall within a Tuesday - Saturday workweek.
  • Duration: position is ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget.

Pay & Benefits
  • Non-exempt, hourly rate. 
  • Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class.  

 Note: Unfortunately current active CalPERS members are ineligible for employment with temporary, part-time positions. 

Examples of Essential Duties


Note: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties. Each individual does not necessarily perform all the duties listed.

  • Empty book drops and check in library materials using a computerized library system.
  • Sort/shelve library materials accurately according to library classifications systems (alphabetical and alphanumeric).
  • Perform shelf reading, restock displays, and reorganize shelves for correct location of materials and attractive appearance of items.
  • Locate and retrieve materials for patron requests.
  • Set up for and occasionally assist with library programs.
  • Assist with training Library Pages and volunteers.
  • Perform routine clerical and support tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office procedures and equipment

  • Perform detailed work with speed and accuracy

Minimum Qualifications


Education:
High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.

Desirable Experience:
One (1) year or equivalent of Library Shelver experience.  

Substitution:  
Relevant college courses or career experience could count towards experience on a year-for-year basis (i.e., successful completion of 30 semester units could count as one year of full-time experience). Equivalency could also include experience such as working in an instructional setting or performing other detailed work related to the organization and filing of materials.

Physical Requirements:  
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching.  Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds; reaching overhead to shelve books weighting up to 3 pounds.  Perform repetitive hand, arm and body movement on a continual basis for up to an hour.  Frequent writing, grasping, holding, and reaching overhead.  Push or pull book carts weighing up to 250 pounds.  Frequent public and coworker contact, occasional working alone.
