The Sun Prairie Public Library is hiring one (1) 10-hour per week Library Page! Those who have applied before are welcome to submit their interest again.

This position ensures that staff and patrons are able to promptly find various library materials by placing returned books, audiovisual materials, magazines and newspapers in the correct location on the proper shelf.

Schedule
  • Approximately 10 hours per week. 
  • Tentative start date, April 29, 2026.
  • Available shifts include Wednesdays from 4:15-9:15 and Saturdays from 12:15-5:15.
  • Evenings and weekends are required.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older, with the ability to work flexible hours.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs alpha-numeric sorting tasks.
  • Sorts and arranges library materials for shelving and shelves them in proper order. 
  • Monitors shelves for neatness and correct shelving order.
  • Empties book drop.
  • Monitors minor maintenance issues affecting the book drop or collections and assists/reports as necessary.
  • Refers non-directional questions to appropriate staff members.
  • Straightens and picks up library.
  • Prepares meeting rooms for events as needed.
  • Assists with opening and closing the library.
  • Retrieves items to send to other libraries.
  • Assists patrons with library equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:
Knowledge of
  • Requires knowledge and ability to sort efficiently in alphabetic or numeric order.
Ability to
  • Ability to understand and perform routine library procedures. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public. 
  • Ability to develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal and other systems of library arrangement.

  • Work is performed mostly in a Library setting; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling objects on wheels weighing 60-80 pounds.
