Summary of Job

The Germantown Community Library in Germantown, WI, is seeking a part-time Page I who is positive, reliable, and enjoys working independently with direction.  The Library Page I returns library materials to their designated area within the Library and performs special tasks as requested by the Circulation Manager, Assistant Director or Library Director.  

Applicants must be at least 15 years old.  The starting wage is $10.06 per hour.  The schedule will have 1-2 shifts of 3-6 PM or 5-8PM, Monday - Thursday.  The specific days of the week will be communicated at the interview. The schedule will also include 1-2 Saturday per month, 9 AM - 4 PM.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following are fundamental to the position. These are not to be considered as exclusive or all-inclusive; other related duties may be required and assigned as needed.

  • Shelve all library materials in proper location and order.
  • Double check all materials before shelving.
  • Assist with library open and close procedures.
  • ‘Shelf read’ to ensure materials are in proper order.
  • Assist with pulling and processing patron hold requests as directed.
  • Perform inventory as directed.
  • Assist patrons with finding the location of library services.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Ability to work a schedule that includes 1-2 evenings per week, 1-2 Saturdays per month with flexibility to meet the operational needs of the library.
  • Familiarity with some library materials and/or services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computer usage including internet browsers and email software. 
  • Knowledge of the English alphabet and decimal numbers.
  • Alphabetical and numeric sorting and filing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and appropriately apply Library, Village, and System policies, procedures, and practices using sound judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patron information.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, handle stressful situations, and navigate conflicts, escalating concerns to management when appropriate.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and dependability, with flexibility to meet library needs.
  • Ability to engage in a warm, friendly, and professional manner with patrons and coworkers.
