Sorts, retrieves and re-shelves library materials.
Performs shelf reading for accuracy and ensures that materials are in proper shelf order.
Processes, cleans, inspects and mends library materials including audiovisual materials.
Performs basic clerical duties including gathering data on library usage.
Provides assistance to patrons that may include utilizing computer work stations, cash registers, copiers and other library equipment.
Monitors and oversees public use of computer equipment.
Assists patrons with basic computer applications including Internet access, Email and word processing.
Receives and routes telephone calls using a telephone console.
Charges out and receives returned library materials.
Registers and renews library accounts.
Assists in preparing meeting rooms for programs by setting up tables, chairs, audiovisual, computers and related equipment.
Maintains public library areas in neat and orderly condition.
Advises patrons on basic Library policies and procedures.
Performs messenger duties, as assigned.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of:
Alphabetical, numerical and subject filing methods.
Basic mathematics.
Basic office clerical procedures.
Microsoft Office software, Windows, and the Internet.
Effective customer service techniques.
Ability to:
Sort, shelve and organize materials in alphabetical, numerical and subject order.
Lift books and push heavy book trucks.
Learn standard library procedures.
Follow written and oral instructions.
Provide effective customer service.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other City employees and the public.
Skill in:
Reading, writing and communicating in English at an appropriate level.
Operating standard office equipment including a computer, photocopiers and peripherals.
Education, Training and Experience:
Completion of sufficient education and/or training to read, write and communicate in English at a level reasonable for successful job performance, as assigned. Familiarity and experience with PC-based computer applications and Internet services.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed within the environment of a library and requires continuous walking as well as frequent bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, moving and carrying books, tables, chairs, and office equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be available to work evenings and weekends and irregular work hours and report to off-site assignments.
