$13.81   

AGE REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 16 years old    

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

HOURS PER WEEK: Part-time, up to 19 hours per week

AVAILABILITY: Weekdays: 3:30p.m. – 5:30 p.m./Saturday:  10:00a.m. – 2:00p.m.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Primary responsibilities include shelving library materials and performing shelf reading to ensure items are accurately organized. Additional tasks include checking in, cleaning, and sorting materials, along with assisting in other areas as needed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

·        Shelf read library books and audio-visual materials, placing items in their proper locations as needed.

·        Shelve and retrieve library materials, shifting materials as needed.

·        Answer basic informational and directional questions from patrons (e.g., library hours, location of restrooms, etc.), referring other questions to appropriate individuals.

·        Assist library staff in various departments (e.g., circulation desks, technical services, administration, etc.).

·        Maintain neat and orderly stacks and public areas in general.

·        Check in and clean library materials, which involve identifying materials in need of repair, materials on hold, materials for new bookshelf, and routing materials to their respective destinations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·        Basic keyboarding and computer skills.

·        Knowledge of (or ability to learn) alphabetical and numerical filing systems.

·        Ability to communicate well with library staff and patrons, follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively and efficiently with little supervision.

·        Highly developed customer service skills.

·        Personal initiative, motivation, positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team and alone.

·        Ability to perform tedious, routine and repetitious work with good concentration, speed, and accuracy.

·        Ability to perform physical requirements of assigned duties and responsibilities.  This may include standing and walking for extended durations; climbing/descending stairs; lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds and rarely up to 50 pounds: pushing/pulling wheeled carts filled with library materials; bending; stooping; kneeling; reaching shelves 3 to 5 inches above floor level and reaching overhead while maintaining balance.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Must be able to read, alphabetize and organize in alpha-numeric sequence

Entry-Level position with in-house training
