The list that follows is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.
Works irregular hours including days, evenings, and weekends
Schedules activities based on established priorities and community needs
Supervises and schedules Library staff and assigned functions
Conducts regular performance evaluations of personnel, giving frequent, and specific feedback about personnel performance
Prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects
Provides leadership, direction, mentoring, and coaching to employees
Manages and ensures Library operations are in compliance with City policies and objectives
Manages and directs Library activities, including reference, circulation, collection development, cataloging, online resources, and community programs
Develops and implements short and long-term goals, objectives, and policies for the Library
Provides sound decision making skills and critical thinking to provide professional recommendations, decisions and completed staff work.
In coordination with other City departments, oversees the operation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all Library buildings
Works cooperatively with personnel, co-workers and the management team
Exercises tact, self-restraint and good judgment
Responsible for volunteer management operations such as recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers
Assists in the preparation, monitoring, and administration of the Department budget
Identifies, obtains, and manages funding from grants and community partners
Maintains and analyzes operating statistics
Responds to requests for information, research questions, and provides general and complex information to the general public and Library patrons
Serves as liaison to the Friends of the Library and Commission as needed
Attends City Council, Commission, community, and other meetings as assigned
Provides effective leadership to accomplish the administrative objectives of the City Manager and the policy goals of the City Council
Delivers responsive and effective internal and external customer service while solving problems and proactively creating sustainable solutions to issues
Supports the City’s mission, goals, policies, and objectives
Supports the City’s core values of: Openness and honesty; integrity and ethics, accountability; responsive and effective customer service, teamwork, excellence, and fiscal and environmental responsibility
Performs other related duties as required

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process. The pre-employment process may include but not be limited to: reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint-based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post-offer medical examination and drug test. For public safety positions, including positions based in the Police and/or Fire Department(s), the pre-employment process may also include but not be limited to a P.O.S.T. compliant background check, polygraph examination, post-offer medical examination and drug test, and post-offer psychological examination.
