This is a full-time position located at the State Library in Baton Rouge, LA.

This position is the Head of the Louisiana Department and manages and oversees all aspects of the department. It serves as the ultimate authority on all things related to Louisiana history, culture, government, and library resources. This position requires extensive knowledge of Louisiana and experience with resources available via the internet and in other state, national, and international library collections.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in library science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association followed by four years of experience in library services.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • This position is responsible for maintaining a collection of 1.2 million items of specialized materials and the building, maintenance, and preservation of its collections.
  • This position requires extensive knowledge of preservation practices and standards to properly preserve, arrange, and describe collections.
  • This position is responsible for selecting items for the Louisiana Collections that include, but are not limited to, books, maps, audio, video, microform, art, etc.
  • This position takes a lead role in establishing, creating, and maintaining a digital archive for historic photographs, and serves as the administrator for the State Library's Collections in the Louisiana Digital Library and queries about usage.
  • This position serves as Copyright and Preservation Librarian for the State Library.


Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position is being filled as a promotional appointment. Applicants must be current classified employees of DCRT to be eligible.
Work Schedule: This position is a full-time position that reports in-office at the State Library.

Location: This is a full-time position located at theState Library in Baton Rouge, LA.
