WHAT YOU'LL DO: 
The fourth level in the Library Series. Incumbent assists Director with Library operations. Responsibilities may include supervising staff; analyzing requests for information from the public and staff; and presenting information sessions on library programs.

Specifically, as the Library Manager you will...   

• Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
• Communicates with local media on library matters, including attending City budget and library system meetings as required.
• Analyzes requests for information/assistance from public and staff about web resources and digital collections.
• Develops, plans, coordinates and evaluates publicity for programs, services and resources
• Presents workshops, classes, and other presentations on library services to the public library system and the general public.
• Represents library at external meetings.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  
  
  

ABOUT YOU:

A successful candidate will have some or all of the following ...    

Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field; 5 years library services experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties such as those listed above.

• Supervisory principles;
• Scheduling principles; 
• Advanced principles, procedures and methods related to area of assignment; 
• Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, and regulations; 
• Information resources, including: collection management, preservation, and conservation; 
• Web editing software; 
• Social media platforms; 
• Systems of cataloging, metadata, indexing, and classification standards; 
• Concepts, principles, and techniques of reference and user service; 
• Learning theories, instructional methods, and achievement measures.

• Delegating and prioritizing work;
• Monitoring and evaluating staff; 
• Using a computer and related software applications; 
• Managing projects within assigned parameters; 
• Budgeting principles and practices. 
• Project management principles; 
• Recordkeeping principles; 
• Interpreting and applying policies, procedures, codes, laws, and regulations; 
• Analyzing situations, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of actions, and implementing recommendations; 
• Prioritizing work and multi-tasking;
•  Troubleshooting complex systems problems related to area of assignment; 
• Preparing and maintaining a variety of reports and records; 
• Qualitative and quantitative research methods; 
• Utilizing information communication technology; 
• Utilizing assistive and related technologies which affect resources and service delivery; 
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Hours of Work/Physical and Mental Demands
