The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative level professional library work, including advising and assisting the Library Division Director in the managing, planning, and budgeting of library operations.
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Advises and assists Director in managing daily operations; assists in problem solving; determines routine logistical actions and acts on behalf of Director in absence of Director.
Serves as a member of the Library Administrative Team.
Recommends planning initiatives; develops planning documents; implements, monitors, and reports status of planned projects.
Oversees collection development process; works with professional staff in formulating, reviewing and implementing a collection development plan; trains staff in the use of the Materials Selection Policy and monitors staff adherence to policy.
Develops and designs employee training programs; recommends employee training programs; communicates training opportunities to employees; monitors and reports on training programs.
Develops grant writing opportunities; recommends grant opportunities; writes grants; monitors grant writing opportunities; reports on grant projects to the Library Director.
Participates in the planning, development, adoption and administration of library rules and policies; assures maintenance of up-to-date policies and procedures manuals; interprets and implements policies and procedures; explains library policy to public as needed.
Develops, recommends, monitors and reports on operational initiatives.
Acts as liaison for division supervisors; advises and assists division supervisors; coordinates and organizes specific aspects of library services and physical facilities; assists Director in analyzing and interpreting needs assessment data; acts as liaison between library and vendors; acts as ADA Officer and Safety Officer.
Plans, develops, designs, implements, manages and reports on computer generated community surveys.
Supervises the Youth & Teen Services Divisions and its staff. Monitors the goals and outcomes of the divisions. Assists in planning, monitoring, and implementing youth and teen programming. Assures all related statistics are recorded and forwarded to Library Director in a timely manner.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; addresses employee concerns and problems, directs work, counsels, and manages employee performance; makes recommendations on personnel matters; recommends hiring of staff.
Oversees and reports on facilities enhancement projects.
Additional Functions
Participates in the maintenance of technological tools; instructs customers in the use of technological tools; assists customers with materials and informational needs.
Attends professional conferences and workshops; keeps current with library practices and professional knowledge.
Develops and makes available special documents.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as required.
Master's degree in Library and Information Science, from an ALA accredited university or college; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience involving professional library work, with extensive supervisory experience.
Requires knowledge of professional library principles, practices and techniques, current literature, trends and developments in the field of library science appropriate to the area of assignment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
