The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is seeking qualified candidates for the Director of the Jeanette Albiez Davis Library on Rio’s main campus.  
 
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director is expected to oversee, plan, organize and direct library services in order to provide adequate and appropriate resources and services to meet the institution’s learning, teaching, and research needs.  
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Develop long and short-term goals and objectives for library services;
  • Coordinate the development and administration of library policies;
  • Coordinate budget affairs for all library operations;
  • Recommend appointment of staff with administrative responsibility for their respective departments, delegate commensurate authority and responsibility to such persons, and evaluate such staff with recommendations to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and to the respective staff members;
  • Supervise the appointment, training, and work schedules of student employees;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Report and evaluate library operations and services annually (or as requested);
  • Supervise ordering, receiving, and processing new acquisitions;
  • Enter, monitor, gather information, compile, and process financial and fiscal records and reports of acquisitions;
  • Serve on committees as appointed and represent the University on outside library-related committees for the betterment of the University; 
  • Work collaboratively with other university, research, and public libraries;
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in the library field in order to prioritize services and allocate resources, and champion information literacy.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution;
  • At least five years of progressively responsible administrative experience preferably in an academic setting;
  • Extensive knowledge of the full range of library operations, including bibliographic and cataloging standards and conventions (including technical knowledge of bibliographic utilities such as OCLC, MaRC cataloging, and RDA), library automation software such as INNOPAC (Innovative Interfaces), as well as library administration, collection development, budgetary development, and personnel development; 
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate a shared and compelling vision for an academic library, particularly as it pertains to what academic libraries should become for future students and faculty;
  • Well-versed in current trends and emerging technologies in the delivery of information services;
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.  This includes strategic planning, resource allocation, personnel management, leadership techniques, budgetary development, and production methods;
  • Evidence of excellent writing and presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population;
  • Willing to work overtime; including non-standard hours, holidays, and weekends as needed; and
  • Willing to participate in special training programs and classes as required.

The Jeanette Albiez Davis Library has holdings in excess of 570,000 items, including 94,197 volumes, 446,409 units of microforms, and 2,412 audio-visual materials. Davis Library subscribes to over 230 current paper periodicals and maintains a collection of approximately 30,000 government documents as a selective U.S. Government Documents Depository. Davis Library is also member of OhioLINK, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), and OHIONET, a statewide network of OCLC participating libraries.
