Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules branch staff to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and achievement of library goals
Ensures the safety and security of staff and customers, and maintains the building and grounds in a clean, safe, and functional condition
Collaborates with the Branch Team Lead to support staff development, performance, and overall branch operations
Models and enforces exceptional customer service standards, ensuring responsive, respectful, and solution-oriented interactions across all service areas
Addresses and resolves customer concerns professionally and in a timely manner, coaching staff through complex or sensitive situations
Oversees all branch services, including Adult Services, Youth Services, and Circulation Services, to ensure efficient and effective operations
Conducts regular staff meetings and promotes clear, consistent communication across departments and team members
Provides advanced reference and readers’ advisory services to meet diverse customer needs
Plans, implements, and evaluates branch programming, including budgeting and supply management, to align with system goals and community needs
Monitors facility and technology issues, coordinating with county departments to ensure timely resolution and maintain customer-ready spaces and resources
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Library Science and two (2) years of professional library experience to include one (1) year of supervisory experience in a library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Management Preference: Public Library experience preferred.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of public services in modern public libraries
Knowledge of supervisory principles, staff development techniques, and adult learning styles
Knowledge of public library automation systems and current technologies
Knowledge of collection development principles and practices in a public library setting
Ability to interpret and explain complex data and information involving both abstract and concrete variables
Ability to analyze statistical data and apply findings to improve services and operations
Ability to identify problems, recommend effective solutions, and administer library policies and procedures
Ability to develop, organize, and deliver training presentations and materials
Ability to stay current with trends and innovations in public library services and technologies
Ability to manage projects, timelines, resources, and staff with minimal supervision while working under pressure and meeting deadlines
Skill in communicating ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintaining positive relationships with staff, customers, and the community
Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
