The County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries is creating a list to fill current and future vacancies for customer service-focused positions at various library locations. Working under general supervision of a Library Branch Manager/Senior Library Associate, the Library Associate performs a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of library services and customers. Assignments typically involve checking out, receiving, and shelving materials; receiving payments; providing customer support for the libraries’ public computers and digital resources; as well as providing general customer assistance. The position requires reaching, bending, stooping, standing for long periods of time; moving loaded book trucks weighing 50-75 lbs.; using a computer keyboard; and picking up 25–30 lb. bags of books. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and be able to travel to various library locations.

Must possess the aptitude and desire to consistently demonstrate excellent quality customer service. Preferred skills include proficiency in computer applications and data entry, the ability to quickly learn new technology, and Spanish bilingual skills. A California Driver’s License is required.
Education and ExperienceA combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate at the time of employment AND one year of experience performing duties comparable to a library page, administrative assistant, or a customer service / retail representative.
Licenses and CertificatesA valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
