The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for (1) hourly extra-help Library Associate II positions with the Oceanside Public Library, to provide excellent and friendly customer service at locations, including the Mission Branch Library, Civic Center Library, and Landes Community Center Library, and outreach sites, and drive Library vehicles, such as "Adelante" Bookmobile, home delivery van, “Splash” Van, or others as needed. Availability to work evenings and weekends is highly desirable.
This is the journey level within the Library Associate series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Library Associate I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, including assignments that require a working knowledge of the City’s library services. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from the One level, or when filled from the outside, have prior related experience.
This position is an hourly, extra-help position which does not include medical benefits and will not exceed 999 hours per fiscal year.
Environmental Conditions: Library environment; extensive public contact.
Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require: maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, climbing (including stepstools, stairs without handrails, and ladders), bending, and twisting, exercising full range of motion of the arms, hands, wrists and fingers, repeated pulling, grasping, carrying and pushing onto shelves of books and other items, and pushing/pulling of book carts loaded with materials, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), stooping, crouching, kneeling and stretching; speaking and hearing to exchange information; visual acuity to read small print, computer screens, and other printed documents; headset or ear bud use for internal radio communications; and operating a vehicle.
Selection Process: All properly completed applications will be reviewed and references checked. The most appropriately qualified individuals may be invited to an oral interview to assess job-related experience. Applications will be kept on file for three months.
Note: Prospective employees will undergo, and must successfully pass, a background reference check (including fingerprinting) and a medical examination which may include drug screening.
