Duties and Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Plan and deliver engaging programs for children and teens, including those that promote children’s literature
  • Help create eye-catching, interactive library displays
  • Support the development and upkeep of the branch’s collection
  • Provide friendly, informed service to patrons of all ages and backgrounds
  • Assist with reference and readers’ advisory using print and digital tools
  • Promote library services through outreach to schools and youth organizations
  • Prepare reports and track key statistics
  • Help patrons navigate internet and electronic resources
  • Operate library equipment, including computers, self-checks, copiers, and cash registers
  • Train and coordinate volunteers as needed
  • Address basic facility issues and collaborate with staff on solutions

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or two years of college coursework
  • Two (2) years of customer service or closely related experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in a library setting
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Part-time, not benefit-eligible, 40 hours bi-weekly. Hours vary and will include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.

Location Flexibility: Employees may be reassigned temporarily or permanently to other locations in the system based on operational needs
