JOB SUMMARY

Library Systems and Services is seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, and service oriented Library Associate for the Homestead Cybrarium located in Homestead, FL. This part time Library Associate plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Library. Under direction from management, the Library Associate performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties in support of various functions of the library; primarily staff and technology support as well as providing excellent customer service to library patrons.

This position will be constantly researching and exploring new opportunities to better serve the community. This position reports to the Assistant Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Manage virtual reality (VR) service: including equipment maintenance, program development, training, and general use
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and network-related problems encountered by end-users
  • Use established tracking systems to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes, and implement solutions
  • Coordinate with LS&S IT staff as needed
  • Interact with and coordinate with IT vendors to troubleshoot issues
  • Advise management regarding technology issues, needs, assessments, and continuous improvements
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of processes and procedures 
  • Track and report relevant monthly statistics, including website visits, computer use, electronic collections, and virtual reality use.
  • Technology projects as assigned
  • Assist in managing the Cybrarium's Makerspace service: processing and printing files using a 3D printer, training new users on equipment, supervising Makerspace volunteers/interns, and coordinating access to the space. 
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  •  H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Two years library experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
  • General familiarity with technology; including, but not limited to computer hardware and software
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that includes a combination of days, evenings and weekends
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and the willingness to learn a variety of other software
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • English/Spanish speaking a plus


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves. 
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
