JOB SUMMARY

The Library Associate 3 role is the senior role in the Library Associate job family. Reporting to the Assistant Library Director, this position is primarily responsible for planning and presenting story times, programs, and projects, assisting at the service desks, and providing computer assistance to patrons as needed. The successful candidate will work closely with schools, local organizations, and community partners to promote library events and outreach efforts, build relationships with families, and foster lifelong library engagement. 

Applicants must be willing to work scheduled shifts which include some Saturdays, evenings, and occasional Sundays. 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patrons with finding materials, answering 
  • questions, and recommending age-appropriate resources.
  • Staff the children's desk and support other service desks as needed.
  • Work closely with Youth Services team and library management to plan, implement and promote programming activities
  • Plan and perform weekly story-times for babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
  • Plan and create after-school and/or evening activities or crafts for children and youth.
  • Assist in planning and participating in makerspace technologies and activities (STEAM kits, 3D Printer, etc.).
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the library’s summer reading program.
  • Create displays and flyers to advertise and promote activities.
  • Assist with library outreach efforts, including school visits and community partnerships.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of library collections for children.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices in youth services.
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary and enforce those rules when appropriate.
  • Handle opening and closing responsibilities as needed.
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read
  • Statement and Freedom to View Statement. Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education,

training and/or work experience required.

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required, some college or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of children's and young adult literature. 
  • Experience developing and delivering youth programming.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years’ library experience, preferably in youth services.
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred. 
  • Experience with web-based platforms, digital resources, and STEAM education tools preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.

Salary Description
$16/hr
