Job Description


The Appleton Public Library is seeking a Library Assistant - Technology Learning and Innovation (Part-Time). This is a limited-term, part-time position in the Community Partnerships section of the library. Work involves advancing patron awareness and education related to information technology and innovation. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Work is supervised by the Community Partnerships Supervisor.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, develop, and implement programs, projects, and community initiatives related to teen and adult technology learning and innovation
  • Contribute to existing digital literacy initiatives for teens and adults
  • Instruct and empower patrons in technology use in the library’s creation studios and coworking space. Provide one-on-one patron services. Create patron and staff information resources as relevant
  • Monitor emerging and evolving trends in library and information technologies and communicate relevant findings with stakeholders
  • Create and utilize evaluation tools to monitor the impact of technology learning and innovation efforts
  • Meet regularly with Community Partnerships team and supervisor
  • Maintain regular punctual and predictable attendance
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide tours and presentations to patrons, community partners, and staff as needed
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with stakeholders effectively
  • Participate in training and self-directed exploration of library technology, resources, and services. Maintain and increase skills through participation in continuing education
  • Oversee volunteers as opportunities arise
  • Other tasks as assigned

Typical Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Knowledge of general library services and practices
  • Intermediate to advanced digital literacy and technology skills, including a working knowledge of computers, Internet, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to become proficient on library’s resources and adapt to changes
  • Ability to identify and address technical needs of users
  • Ability to evaluate and utilize new technologies
  • Strong oral, written and listening communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to interact with diverse range of community members
  • Ability to work as a team member, maintaining effective relationships with other employees
  • Ability to work independently, maintaining communication with supervisor
  • Ability to ask for help or guidance when needed
  • Ability to stand or sit for several hours
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. 
  • Spanish or Hmong language proficiency is a plus
