Position Title: Library Assistant Specialist - Floater
Status: Full-time, Non-exempt | Pay Grade 3
Reports To: Bethel Branch Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic and service-oriented individual to support multiple branches across the system, filling in where needed to ensure smooth daily operations. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with different teams while providing outstanding service to our guests. As a Floater, you'll assist with circulation, answer questions, recommend materials, and help with technology. You'll also engage in maintaining library collections, supporting outreach efforts, and assisting with various operational tasks that ensure our branch runs smoothly.

The role requires evening and weekend availability, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to excellent customer service, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment. Reliable transportation and the ability to perform physical tasks, such as shelving and organizing, are necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides friendly, knowledgeable service to library guests of all ages and abilities.
  • Uses the library software to circulate materials and perform a variety of clerical tasks.
  • Assists guests in person and by phone by answering questions and suggesting books, movies, and other resources, using the catalog, databases, and the internet.
  • Helps guests with basic technology needs, such as email setup or using digital resources, and assists with the 3D printer.
  • Shelves materials as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school degree with three years of relevant experience.
  • Is skilled in using technology, computers, and software applications, including Microsoft Office products, and troubleshooting equipment issues. Must be comfortable learning and assisting with electronic resources to aid in reference and reader's advisory assistance, tech assistance, statistical reports, and communication. Learns new skills as they develop or are implemented.
  • Adapts easily to the pace and routines at different branches while maintaining great service.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Establishes and maintains an excellent working relationship with library staff in all departments, library guests, with volunteers, and within work groups, respectful of diversity and all ages.
  • Applicant must also be able to pass a background check.

Rate: Minimum $14.00 per hour + $1.00 per hour differential

Pay Grade 3, non-exempt

40 hours/week

Operating Hours:

  • Monday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 12:00 PM-8:00 PM
  • Wednesday-Thursday: 10:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Friday-Saturday: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • Sunday: Closed
