Job Summary
Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Library Assistant (Satellite). This part time position assists with all aspects of operating a small satellite/branch library, with an emphasis on fostering academic success among first and second year college students. The Satellite Library Assistant helps to extend the availability of library services by working primarily evening shifts, up to 20 hours per week, some weekends required. Provides first-level reference and research assistance to students (making referrals to librarians as needed): staffs the satellite library service desk; checks library materials in/out and performs other circulation functions. Fulfills digital and physical document delivery requests; assists with library outreach events, educational workshops and related programs. Contributes to Satellite Library assessment and reporting efforts; assists with training student workers; participates in various library and university meetings and training sessions. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; prior customer service experience and excellent analytical interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of college-level digital research tools and processes; skilled in working in a primarily digital environment including computers, printers and scanners; familiarity with Microsoft Office suite. Ability to interact with diverse audiences including students, staff, faculty and administrators; must be a self-starter, able to work regularly during the evening. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; reliability, and punctuality are essential. Experience with teaching, tutoring, or providing library services; marketing or communications education or experience; enrolled or considering enrollment in a Library Science Master’s degree program preferred. Background and/or credit check may be required.
