Job Title: Library Assistant-paraprofessional
Dept/School: Library – Troup High School
Length of Work Year: 10 Months
Job Description: This position is under the supervision of the Executive Director of Technology and Library Services.
- Providing instructional support in the library media center for students, staff, faculty, and administrators in information retrieval.
- Meeting with & communicating with teachers to determine any needs for research projects.
- Assisting students in the selection of books and other learning resources.
- Assisting in the supervision of students visiting the library media center.
- Circulating books and other learning resources through the computerized circulation system.
- Shelving books utilizing knowledge or understanding of the principles of bibliographic organization.
- Maintaining a regular schedule for the library and computer lab and tracking the use of both facilities.
- Performing book, periodical, and other media processing including covering, labeling, stamping, filing, cleaning, and mending.
- Inputting, modifying, and retrieving data to operate and maintain the circulation program.
- Assisting with the selection and ordering of library materials.
- Maintaining an appealing and functional environment conducive to learning.
- Overseeing and assisting with the use of computers in the library, computer lab, and laptops, digital cameras, and other technology tools.
- Providing minor maintenance/cleaning to audio-visual equipment
- Tracking inventory and maintaining appropriate records of library resources including but not limited to books, equipment, and furniture.
- Assisting students with on-demand technical support and printing needs.
- Must stay current on school law affecting the library and media center.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Some library experience desirable.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills.
- Must be a versatile, adaptable individual with the initiative to effectively maintain a fast-paced work environment; meeting deadlines and working with minimal supervision.
- Must possess the ability to use independent judgment and initiative, when appropriate, in dealing with library initiatives, as well as academic and student issues.
- Must be competent in using technology tools such as a computer, iPad, etc.,
- Must possess the ability to work with computer applications
- Must be able to provide staff development and training opportunities to teachers and other educators.
- Must possess the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and faculty.
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Some moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
