Our Carbondale Branch Library is seeking two passionate and service-oriented professionals to join our talented team as part-time Library Assistants, contributing to our community and fostering a positive work environment in our newly remodeled and updated library! Positions are available at 24 hours per week and at 20 hours per week.

Our Library Assistants deliver excellent service to the public in all the major areas of public libraries - providing reliable and courteous service while at the information desk, helping patrons find just the right item, assisting with all kinds of technology, connecting people with community resources, designing eye-catching displays, and more! What We Offer:

  • Part-time position: 1 position at (24 hours/week) and 1 position at (20 hours/week)
  • Pay range: $20.31 to $24.69/hour (Pay placement depending on library-specific experience)

Examples of Core Role Responsibilities

  • Assists patrons with circulation needs; answers telephone inquiries regarding library services and programs; directs patrons to requested locations within the library; checks library materials in and out; assists with renewal of books and materials; issues library cards; processes payments; prepares overdue item reports; answers reference questions; assists patrons with locating books and materials; provides reference interviews and Reader Advisory services. Processes library holds and library transfers; searches and pulls materials to fulfill hold lists.
  • Provides technology assistance for patrons logging into public computers and utilizing related equipment including printers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines; assists patrons with other online devices and programs.
  • Participates in constructing library displays; helps design, maintain, and change library displays; ensures display materials are stocked and refilled as needed; updates bulletin boards and signage.
  • Shelves new books and materials; sorts returned items and places them on proper bookshelves; transports carts to transfer items onto sorting shelves. Assess damaged items for withdrawal from collection.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience, including technology proficiency (Microsoft Suite, Apple products, web browsers)
  • Associate's degree or higher (Preferred, but not mandatory)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills (Preferred, but not required)
