Job Description
Chesapeake Public Library ( CPL ) has a well-established Youth and Family Services ( YFS ) department with a dynamic track record of providing quality services for children, young adults, and teens. We are looking for someone to help us deliver new and innovative programs and events while providing exemplary customer service. This position requires exemplary customer service skills. Responsibilities include: assisting with the promotion of literacy and STEM / STEAM programming; assisting and instructing customers in acquiring library cards, checking out materials, and finding print and electronic materials; providing homework help, research support, and computer assistance; delivering high-quality programming to schools and community locations; promoting CPL services and programs using approved social media; and participating in CPL system-wide committees. The weekly schedule is varied and includes day, evening and weekend hours and may also include after-hours programming.
Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience in public libraries or customer service-related industry or volunteerism equivalent to 6 monthsβ part-time work experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driverβs license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards . SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
