SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Senior Library Assistant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist library patrons at circulation desk; check in or check out library material; issue library cards.
Collect library fees; issue receipts; enter data into the computer; count money collected and ensure that money is properly documented.
Process requests for library cards including accepting applications, verifying patron information, and entering data into the computer.
Register and assist patrons at the public access computer workstations.
Maintain a log of library statistics.
Receive, sort, distribute newspapers and periodicals.
Maintain subscription records to insure continuity of resources. Notify supervisor of late periodicals.
Maintain and update Meeting Room Calendar.
File library card applications.
Work as a cooperative and supportive member of the library team.
Provide the best possible customer service to the public.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contact patrons by phone or mail when library material is overdue; prepare overdue search forms; clear patron records when matter is resolved.
Shelve returned audio-visual material.
Check shelves for overdue, lost and problem items.
Answer incoming telephone calls; respond to and direct inquiries.
Enter and verify a variety of data into the computer system.
Assist in the closing procedures of the library.
Route damaged items to appropriate Librarian or Technical staff.
Assist in maintaining the photocopier, including adding paper and reporting maintenance problems to supervisor.
Assist patrons with use of photocopier.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE
Some library experience is preferred.
Type 30 wpm.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE (Part-time)
Week 1 - Monday, Tuesday (11am-8pm), Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday - 8am-5pm. Week 2 - Monday, Tuesday (11am-8pm), Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 9am-6pm. This position works every third Saturday.
REQUIRED TESTING(only if interviewed)
Library Department will conduct a math/cash handling test.
