Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Promote and market library services.
     
  • Assists patrons in the use of library facilities; explains library policies and procedures to the public, and library staff.
     
  • Performs reference work at a professional level, according to Level of incumbent.
     
  • Selects, orders, maintains, and weeds collections in assigned subject areas.
     
  • Presents programming, story times, tours, and outreach events.
     
  • May supervise, review work, and evaluate clerical and/or paraprofessional employees.
     
  • Selects, arranges, and promotes the library through outreach activities.
     
  • Keeps current with materials acquired by library; prepares statistics, reports, and programs.
     
  • Designs, coordinates and implements library programs for special events.
     
  • Index and catalog material.  
     
  • Provide readers advisory.
     
  • Answer customer inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

Librarian I

Education:

Possession a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited library school, preferably with some additional study in library, business and/or public administration.

Librarian II

Experience:

One (1) year of experience equivalent to a Librarian I in Merced County.

Possession a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited library school, preferably with some additional study in library, business and/or public administration.

Essential Functions

  • Children's library work and the field of children's literature.
