This is an entry-level position for library school graduates. Employees in this class are expected to learn the specific applications of professional training by the performance of duties under the general supervision of professional librarians in higher level positions. Instructions may be issued at the beginning of each new assignment. Employees in this class are assigned work progressively more difficult as their experience in the field broadens. Supervision may be exercised over Library Assistants, Clerks, Pages and Volunteers. Related work is performed as required.
Masters degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Eligibility for a New York State public librarian’s professional certificate at time of application.
Possession of certificate at time of appointment.
***If assigned to the Bookmobile, must possess a valid New York State Class D driver’s license at time of assignment. This license must be maintained throughout assignment to drive the Bookmobile.
There will be no written or oral test for this examination. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of your training and experience against the duties of the position.
Candidates must first complete an examination application and return it to the Department of Human Resource Management, 30 Church Street, Room 103-A, Rochester, NY 14614 on or before the last filing date. The application is also available online at: http://www.cityofrochester.gov/
Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire (T&E).
There will be no further test components in this examination. It is from the rating of this questionnaire that the candidates will receive their final score and eligibility ranking.
RATING: This examination will be rated in accordance with Section 23.2 of the Civil Service Law. The provision of the NYS Civil Service Rules and Regulations dealing with the rating of examinations will apply to this exam.
WEIGHT: The rating of the Training and Experience Questionnaire will contribute 100% to the final score.
CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT ELIGIBLE LISTS: Passing scores received by candidates will be merged with passing scores of future candidates as new tests are given. Eligibility will be effective for a period of one year each time a candidate successfully completes an exam. The Municipal Civil Service Commission reserves the right to establish cut-off dates for testing as needs require.
