Job Title: Librarian, Continuous Curriculum School, 1.0 FTE
Reports to: Building Principal or designee
Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per day, 184 days per year, starting at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year.
Salary: East Valley Certificated Salary Schedule, $56,397 - $113,589 depending on placement per degree, credits, and experience.

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the principal or designee, this teaching position will plan instruction, teach, motivate, inspire, and assess students in the library. This teaching position will promote a high-quality education program that reflects state standards.
Essential Job Functions:
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Design and deliver lessons aligned with state, American Association of School Librarians, and ISTE standards that offer authentic, inclusive learning experiences for diverse learners.
- Oversee daily circulation, accounting, and maintain accurate records of books and records.
- Lead instruction in information literacy, including evaluating credibility, relevance, and currency of sources.
- Support instructional staff with curriculum integration, information technology, and resource management.
- Teach students to critically consume and create information, and to be ethical, responsible digital citizens.
- Instruct students and staff in the use of emerging learning technologies for academic and lifelong learning.
- Guide students through the research process and collaborate with teachers to integrate it into the curriculum.
- Foster a vibrant reading culture and promote reading for comprehension and enjoyment.
- Curate a diverse, high-quality collection of fiction and nonfiction in multiple formats.
- Collaborate with staff to select resources that support curriculum and student interests, empowering learners as informed creators.
- Ensure equitable access to resources, technology, and information services for the school community.
- Develop and manage engaging physical and digital learning environments.
- Administer information systems that support student learning and school programs.
- Manage the library budget responsibly.
- Communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student progress.
- Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Manage classroom behavior with clear parameters and consistent, respectful responses.
- Maintain appropriate and accurate student records.
- Participate in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to use data to support student growth.
- Pursue professional growth through coursework, workshops, and reading.
- Exhibit flexibility, high-stress tolerance, reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality.
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract.
- Professionally interact with a diverse range of colleagues, members of the public, and students.
- Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws.
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Skills:
- Preference for a strong background in elementary and/or middle school curriculum and as an elementary or middle school librarian.
- Preference for knowledge and experience with: Follet Circulation and Catalog Plus System, knowledge of reference CDs, computer mode and library networking system, digital camera and scanner, operation of various brand name audio-visual equipment, knowledge of internet and student policy, and knowledge of basic library curriculum for elementary education.
- School degree in related field preferred.
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to implement a trauma informed learning environment where the needs of the whole child are accounted for in classroom design.
- Understand and apply current educational developments and instructional methodologies.
- Flexible in learning new concepts and adapting to a variety of assignments and conditions.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Display enthusiasm, optimism, and motivation towards teaching and student learning.
- Participate in school, district, and community events.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds or 33% of body weight, whichever is less.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Teaching certificate, no later than the first contracted day of the 2025/2026 school year with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
- Library Media endorsement required.
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.
- Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.
Evaluation:
The Librarian shall be evaluated per the terms of the East Valley Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above essential job functions.
