Librarian
WalkerFor over 60 years, Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs is a leading non-profit organization providing comprehensive programming in the fields of child welfare, children’s behavioral health, and special education. We proudly serve over 150 communities in MA, with our clients coming from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, who struggle predominantly with anxiety and trauma. These services are offered through; Residential, CBAT, and Intensive Treatment Programs, Special Education Day School, Therapeutic Middle-High School, Out-Patient and In-Home Therapeutic Services.
Summary of position: To maintain the Walker School library collection, including books and audiovisual materials. To instruct students in the use of library materials. To consult to teachers on use of library materials. Collaborate with education staff with regard to developing and implementing the library curriculum. committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength-based treatment.

Essential functions:
- Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
- Maintain a library atmosphere that is conducive to learning and effectively manage the behavior of students in small and large groups.
- Meet children’s physical needs and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for children.
- Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain library collection, including audiovisual and some computer software.
- Manage circulation of materials.
- Catalogue library materials.
- Manage library budget, under the direction of the Principal.
- Assist teachers and students with accessing needed materials.
- All other duties, as assigned
Education and Licensure
Required: Bachelor’s degree
Preferred: Degree in Library Science
Experience
Required: Experience as children’s librarian or school media specialist
Preferred: Experience with similar population; expertise in children’s literature
Abilities
Required abilities: Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely. Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment. Must understand child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. Must understand issues of confidentiality. Must be receptive to supervision and professional development.
Required abilities: Ability to work and stand for extended period of time. Job may require bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Job requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention as needed.
Supervision to be received: Directly responsible to and supervised by the Assistant Principal
