Provides overall management for the Library which includes technical and public services, information literacy instruction, information technology assistance, and collection development. Serves as the College’s principal representative within the OhioLINK consortium and the library community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Provides leadership, facilitates strategic planning and goal setting for the department within the context of the College’s vision and the information needs of the campus community. Works with Academic Affairs to determine instructional support needs and in the establishment or revision of library policies and procedures.
Manages and coordinates all library operations; including collection development, public services, and technical services. Supervises, schedules, and trains library staff. Performs staff evaluations in accordance with College policy. Collaborates closely with the Information Technology department and other departments to provide high-quality technology assistance and information services for the campus community. Frequently consults faculty and staff in the selection of materials.
Identifies budgetary needs, develops and administers the library’s budget. Supervises the purchase of all library resources, and submits orders or requests for equipment, library materials, furniture, and supplies. Maintains organized records of orders and receipts of purchased materials and performs follow-ups with vendors as needed, including the management of a print serials collection. Creates Purchase Order Requisitions for the department. Maintains inventory of office/library supplies.
Regularly coordinates the inventory of the library collection. Evaluate and select library resources to be sorted, discarded, repaired and/or replaced. Performs original and copy cataloging, and oversees all aspects of the library’s technical services to maintain the integrity of the catalog and facilitate access to library materials.
Coordinates all system maintenance related to the upkeep of the integrated library system (ILS). Resolves technical problems in the use of electronic resources and library equipment. Serves as Administrator for the library’s web page, OPAC, and discovery layer; and contact person for the library’s hosted server and the ILS.
Monitors College compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Advises the Terra State community on compliance-related matters and develops tools to provide assurance. Research, draft, and update College-wide policies on a defined schedule, or as needed, in collaboration with respective supervisors to assist in meeting the College’s needs and in accordance with federal, state, and local legislation.
Acts as the College’s Archive Manager and Copyright Officer. Organizes and maintains the College archives, and administers the College’s records retention policy, including managing certificates of records disposal. Proposes updates to the College’s Copyright Policy as needed.
Develops, supervises, and provides reference services, including information literacy instruction and research assistance, for the campus community. Provides group and one-on-one training to students and College personnel in accessing and utilizing library resources in various formats and assists users with campus technology. Manages the marketing of library materials and services through campus outreach and communications.
Creates and manages effective action plans in response to audit discoveries and compliance violations. Maintains, gathers, interprets, and distributes library statistical data (including usage and acquisition) for internal and external reporting requirements.
Serves as the OhioLINK Two-Year Library Director and OhioLINK Lead Implementor (library technology/systems liaison) for the College. Performs the responsibilities and tasks inherent in these roles. Attends meetings in-person or virtually as participation requires, monitors necessary email listservs for updates and completes action items on behalf of the library, and acts in the institution’s best interest when voting. Participates in OhioLINK committees as requested by the State of Ohio.
Remains knowledgeable of innovative and common practices within library and information science, especially in regard to their possible application within the community college setting.
Performs duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience:
ALA-accredited Master’s of Library Science degree preferred.
Two to five years work experience within an academic library setting required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Possess comprehensive computer knowledge and skills.
Familiarity with educational and consumer technology and how it relates to library services
Must possess strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
Experience with professional cataloging standards; including AACR2r/RDA, USMARC formats, DDC, and LCSH
Familiarity with automated library systems.
Familiarity with discovery layer and electronic resource management
Proven ability to effectively manage a budget and balance strategic, tactical, and operational priorities
Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage in a dynamic, changing environment desired.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations.
Knowledge of OhioLINK processes and resources preferred
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students.
Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
