    Manage the operation of the library and serve as a master teacher, materials expert, and technology/curriculum leader. Provide leadership in instructional strategies, library administration, material selection, and technology implementation and utilization. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures and regulations.
     
    Essential Functions
     
    1. Implement a nurturing, safe library environment that is positive and conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
    2. Take an active leadership role in teaching information literacy, online safety, and use of library materials. Fully participate in the curriculum development process to support academic achievement.
    3. Promote reading and inquiry learning as essential lifelong skills.
    4. Lead and curates staff development for teachers on the availability and innovative use of digital/print resources and technology.
    5. Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library media resources.
    6. Collaborate with the Innovative Technology Support (ITS) teacher to deploy and maintain student devices and support the latest innovation in teaching and learning.
    7. Compile budget and estimate costs based on program needs and state guidelines.
    8. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, invoices, records, and other documents required.
    9. Provide sources of information outside the physical library such as, 24/7 online resources, digital content, and interlibrary loan.
    10. Develop and coordinate an annual evaluation of the library media program, share with campus leadership, and make changes based on findings.
    11. Direct the work of library aides, student aides, and volunteers.
    12. Comply with campus, district, and state policies and procedures as appropriate.
     
    Other Responsibilities
     
    1. Maintain a professional code of ethics; present a professional image in grooming and attire, and serve as a role model for all district teachers.
    2. Participate in professional development activities as required by the district to remain current in instructional methods and to provide advice and counsel for teachers on matters pertaining to instruction.
    3. Keep informed and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies.
    4. Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties; support district/campus goals.
    5. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    6. Attendance at the work-site.
    7. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
    8. Perform other duties as assigned.
     
    Virtual and Online Teaching Duties (additional as assigned)
     
    1. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    2. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. Participate in meetings as required and/or coordinated by supervisors. Utilize the workday to plan, prepare, implement and evaluate lessons and activities.
    3. Communicate with students and parents for a minimum of one time per week via phone, email, website, educator communication app, or video/virtual conferencing.
    4. Respond to all correspondence from parents and students within the next business day of receipt.
    5. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
     
    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Tools/Equipment Used
    : Personal or district issued computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals. Automated external defibrillator (AED) as assigned after receiving appropriate training.
    Posture: Prolonged standing, sitting, frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting.
    Motion: Repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists, frequent walking.
    Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may lift and move books, stacks of books, text books, media equipment, desks and classroom equipment.
    Environment: Work inside, outside, from home or location other than school building, and exposure to noise.
    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.  Subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
    Travel: Occasional district-wide travel and statewide travel. Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.

    Qualifications
     
    Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university, valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned, demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned, knowledge of academic subject/s assigned, knowledge of curriculum and instruction, ability to instruct students and manage their behavior, strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. A minimum experience as a student teacher or approved internship.
