Obligations of the Instruction Librarian:

A. Hours: 40 hours per week as scheduled with Supervisor.

B. Instructional Services:

  • Conducts orientations for new library users to explain services, resources, and policies.
  • Plans and conducts training sessions for library users on services and resources.
  • Produces and maintains instructional guides to library resources as needed or as requested by the Head Librarian.
  • Produces and maintains research guides as needed or as requested by the Head Librarian.

C. Reference and User Services:

  • Provides reference services at the service desk. May include evening and weekend work.
  • Provides online reference services through the library reference system. May include evening and weekend work.
  • Assists library users in the use of print and electronic research tools.
  • Assists library users with research requests.
  • Assists students with student copiers, printers, and computers.
  • Assists faculty and staff in the use of the library audiovisual equipment.
  • Maintains familiarity with the library collection and resources.
  • Performs circulation duties such as check in and check out of library items and maintaining accurate circulation statistics.

D. Collection Development:

  • Communicates with assigned academic department(s) for collection development, and for the promotion with development of new user services and online initiatives.
  • Participates in collection management, evaluation, weeding and preservation decisions for assigned subject areas.
  • Recommends print and electronic materials to be added to assigned subject areas using standard selection tools.

E. Supervisory Duties:

  • Supervises and trains clerks and work study students in various library duties.
  • Assigns clerical duties to clerks and work study students as needed.

F. Other Duties:

  • Collects data for statistical analysis and reports; prepares for submission to Head Librarian.
  • Assists with cataloging and materials processing as needed.
  • Participates in yearly inventory.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

G. Other Duties as Deemed Necessary by Supervisor 


Requirements

Education: Minimum Master's Degree in Library Science
