Job Description
The University of Tulsa McFarlin Library seeks a dynamic and innovative Graduate Studies Librarian to join our team. This position is dedicated to supporting the research and academic success of graduate students and faculty across all disciplines. The Graduate Studies Librarian will provide advanced research assistance, develop specialized collections, deliver instructional services, and foster scholarly communication within the graduate community. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Research and Reference Services: o Provide expert research consultations and reference services to graduate students and faculty. o Assist with literature reviews, citation management, and advanced research methodologies. o Collaborate with faculty to identify and prioritize collection needs. Instructional Support: o Design and deliver information literacy sessions, workshops, and seminars tailored to the unique needs of graduate students. o Create online guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials to enhance research skills and promote resource discovery. Scholarly Communication: o Provide guidance on scholarly publishing, open access, intellectual property, and copyright issues. o Support the dissemination of research through institutional repositories and other digital platforms. o Assist students and faculty in understanding and managing their online scholarly profiles, including SCOPUS , ORCID , Google Scholar, and other academic networking platforms. Outreach and Collaboration: o Serve as a liaison to graduate programs and departments, fostering strong relationships with faculty and students. o Collaborate with other librarians and academic departments to enhance research support and promote library services. Technology Integration: o Stay current with emerging technologies and digital tools that support graduate-level research and instruction. o Provide training and support for software and tools relevant to graduate studies.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs. of materials. Must be able to climb ladders and lift library materials above your head. Must be able to push heavy book trucks and shelve books in a repetitive motion. Position will require long periods of standing or sitting, depending on the task. Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications: A Masterβs degree in Library Science ( MLS or MLIS ) from an ALA -accredited program. Experience in academic libraries, particularly in roles related to reference, instruction, or subject liaison work. Strong research and information literacy skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with scholarly communication and academic publishing. Experience working with graduate students or in a higher education setting.
