Description

The Library Assistant is responsible for opening the library and overseeing all front-desk library services. The schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during spring and fall semesters. During summer months, the schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to applicants with at least an associate’s degree
  • Preference will be given to applicants with library experience
  • Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory and customer service experience
  • Very attentive to detail
  • Calm, patient, and friendly
  • Enjoys working and interacting with college-age students
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experienced and comfortable with basic computer skills/programs
  • Able to lift and maneuver books

Major Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff
  • Become familiar with and use the library catalog and circulation system
  • Assist patrons with general library questions and limited research queries
  • Check items in and out to library users
  • Supervise and train student workers
  • Manage the library reserve collection
  • Learn the inter-library loan system and be able to request, mail, and receive items
  • Assist students with copying and scanning
  • Be flexible, positive, and willing to help as needed
